You may think that based on our business name, TK BIG DAY, we really only use our services at wedding ceremonies and receptions. It is true, we do spend a lot of time celebrating at weddings throughout the year, but we also do other events as well! This month, I got to perform at Northern High School’s THON, and had an ABSOLUTE BLAST!
The song choices at most events I DJ at consist of Top 40 hits, mixed in with the typical party throwbacks (You know… songs like Yeah! By Usher, Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO, Don’t Stop Believing by Journey, and of course, Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson). But perhaps my personal favorite genre is Electronic House or Trap, and I never get to play those kinds of songs… until THON.
My partner Nate and I volunteered our time to put on a show from 3 - 4 am with this kind of music, and they happily agreed! We call ourselves LGNDS.
There was a great amount of preparation for this event. It wasn’t just picking songs on the fly, or slowly transitioning to the next song. House and trap music specifically is created to flow one song into the other. And the greatest part of each song is the drop… the part where everyone jumps around and loses their mind! So to do a great show, we had to carefully select every second of every song, matching up the BPM (beats per minute), as well as the keys, as well as the energy, of each song.
This was our first house trap party, so it probably took much longer to prepare for than it will in the future, but we probably spent over 20 hours crafting our perfect hour long set. Was it a lot of work? Absolutely. Was it worth it? You better believe it!
We went all out that night, partying FTK! And we hope to have the opportunity to have more parties like this. If you’re interested in a fantastic, energetic show, let us know!
I attempted to get some video footage of the party, but unfortunately, mixing a new song every minute, changing light scenes, and hyping up the crowd didn’t leave much time to fiddle with a video. But check out some of the footage I got in the video below!
(Funny story... I actually didn't know that we were recording, it just kept going! Oh well, we got some footage at least!)
Perhaps we'll record our full set so you can download it... What do you think?
