Being a DJ requires that you are up-to-date on all the new music, and in every genre. You never know what kind of music you may need to play at any given event. For instance, while there are songs that transcend generations at almost every wedding (read about that here), everyone’s music taste is a little bit different. So during wedding dinners, I may get requests to play some Buble, some Folk music, some light Jazz, or some Top 40 music that you just can’t really dance to. Or you may end up DJing a strictly country wedding, or a fashion show, or an elementary school dance (all of which I’ve done). Every event will have different music, and as a DJ, I keep up to date in all the different styles, genres, and top hits.
