Why should I hire you instead of playing music off my phone? You can work for hours and hours on a good playlist, but nothing beats live entertainment. Your phone can’t read the audience and know what songs to choose. Your phone can leave awkward breaks between songs. The stress of using your phone during the event is unneeded! I love to hand select every ‘next’ song, based on the audience and schedule. I transition smoothly between songs, allowing no awkward moments. I can play your favorite slow dance at your command, without you frantically having to find it. Let me take away all the stress! Want to know many more reasons? Read my blog post about this subject!
What kind of events have you been a DJ at before? I have DJ’d at weddings, birthday parties, church events, school homecomings and proms, and even a fashion show!
What kind of music do you play? I can play practically any genre of music you desire. I listen to almost every music genre out there! Top Hits, Country, Hip Hop, Pop, Electronic/Dance/House, Rock, Jazz, etc. I personally especially enjoy and specialize in DJing House and Top Hits music.
How do you get your songs? Can we choose the music? You absolutely can! In fact, I encourage you to! I have an extensive personal song library, and with my equipment, I have the ability to connect to Spotify, which is a paid-for music streaming service with practically every song recorded. This allows me to customize the music specifically for your event. You can easily put together a playlist with all the songs you would like played, or write/type it out for me as well. Don’t worry, the music will be covered whether you give me a 10,000 song playlist or your favorite 5 songs.
Doesn’t streaming music take away quality? I wouldn’t use Spotify if the quality wasn’t good. I stream them at the greatest quality possible!
Do you take song requests? I certainly can! Again, with using Spotify, I have the world’s song library at my fingertips.
Can we submit a “Do Not Play” list? Do you use the “Clean” version of songs? Allowing other people to select all the songs can be scary, especially if you have a crude uncle who will request an inappropriate song. You can certainly let me know if there are songs you would not like played, so that we will be sure they won’t be heard at your event. I prefer to use clean versions of songs. Music today has become full of words and references I don’t want my son growing up hearing all the time. I take the time to find clean, radio versions for many songs beforehand if possible. I try my best to cover up or remove any songs that are distasteful for this reason. However, it’s still your day. We can play almost any music you wish!
Do you act as the “MC” and make all the announcements? If you would like me to! This is something you don’t get if you are playing songs off of your phone. Every event could use a voice coordinating everything. I work with your caterers and you throughout the event to announce whatever you need. You may certainly request for a family member or friend to use my microphone to emcee, lead a prayer, or make announcements as well.
What kind of music do you play during dinner/cocktail hour? It can depend on the event, but most of the time I like to play jazz, acoustic music, or classic dinner music like Sinatra, Jack Johnson, and Nat King Cole.
What would you say are some party classics? That’s a lot to choose from! I’d say some hits you can’t miss are “I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas, “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston, “Low (feat T-Pain) by Flo Rida, “Yeah” by Usher, “Beat It” by Michael Jackson, “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO, “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey, “What I Like About You” by The Romantics, and “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, to name a few!
What equipment do you have and use? I DJ with my iPad Pro on a Reloop Mixon 4. I have several wired mics, and a mixture of speakers and amps to use depending on the size of the venue.
May we meet you before signing the contract? I would love to meet you! I don’t believe it’d be smart of you to make a decision on a DJ without getting to know them some first. I’d love to meet you for coffee, or even set up a time to talk on the phone. Should you choose TK BIG DAY, we will also want to talk closer to your event to go over the logistics and music selections.
How early do you arrive to set up? Do I pay for set up and tear down time? I generally request to be able to begin set up about 1 1/2 to 2 hours before your event to properly set up and make sure everything is working perfectly. Unless you need me there before that, you don’t pay for set up or tear down time, just the event start to finish!
Do you charge for travel? This will all be negotiated when we sign the contract. However, no travel will be charged if you are within 30 or so miles from me.
